  • In December 2019, a new type of coronavirus appeared and rapidly spread around the world.
  • The new coronavirus is causing the disease COVID-19.
  • The new coronavirus belongs to the beta-coronavirus family and was named severe acute respiratory syndrome Coronavirus 2 or SARS-CoV-2.
  • Beta-coronavirus family includes the SARS and the middle east respiratory syndrome.
  • The susceptibility and prognoses of pregnant women and the effects of the infection on the fetus have been the center of attention.
  • At present, the effects of COVID-19 to pregnant women are not clear and that the disease does not increase the rate of miscarriage, stillbirth, preterm labor or teratogenicity.
  • Even so, carriers might transmit COVID-19 virus to pregnant women.
