Abstract

The indole N—H hydrogen in the title compound, C15H12FN, does not display classical hydrogen bonding. Rather it forms an interaction with the π system of an adjacent indole, resulting in weakly inter­acting chains along the [001] direction.

The title compound has previously been prepared by Buu-Hoi & Jacquignon (1949 ▶) and by Kraus & Guo (2009 ▶). For the synthesis of the starting material, 4-fluoro-N-(2-oxo-2-phenyl­eth­yl)benzamide, see: Moriya et al. (1986 ▶). There are no structures of closely related compounds in the literature.
